Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are used in Excursion decking?
Excursion decking is crafted using innovative Surestone® Technology, a mineral-based composite (MBC) that delivers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and minimal thermal expansion and contraction. This advanced technology ensures high durability and moisture resistance. Each decking board features a polymer cap that resists stains and fading.
Does Excursion decking require gapping between boards?
Yes, all Deckorators Excursion decking requires gapping between boards to allow for thermal expansion and contraction and water runoff, but specific gapping requirements vary by product line.
Our patented Surestone Technology minimises thermal expansion and contraction. This means end gapping is less critical, but consistent spacing is still recommended. We recommend 1.5 mm to 3 mm depending on outdoor temperature at time of installation.
What fasteners should I use with Excursion decking?
For a clean, fastener-free finish, Excursion’s grooved-edge decking boards are designed to work seamlessly with StealthLock™ Universal Deck Clips. These hidden fastener clips install between the grooves of each board, eliminating the need for pre-drilling and automatically spacing boards for a consistent, professional look. The system simplifies installation while enhancing the overall appearance of your deck.
In areas where top-down fastening is required—such as stairs, perimeter boards, or board replacements—Pro Fastening Systems provide a quick and efficient way to conceal screw heads and maintain a hidden fastener aesthetic.
Will Excursion decking fade over time?
Excursion decking is engineered with a fade- and stain-resistant cap, ensuring that the color remains vibrant for years to come. Additionally, it comes with a best in class warranty, providing 25 years of coverage for both structural integrity and stain and fade resistance.
Is Excursion decking slip-resistant?
Yes, Excursion decking is designed with enhanced traction to provide superior slip resistance. The capped decking boards have undergone rigorous testing in wet conditions and meet the AS/NZS 4586-2013 standard, as verified by an independent third-party lab on September 24-25, 2018.
Can I use hidden fastener systems with Excursion decking?
Yes. Excursion decking features grooved-edge boards specifically designed to work with Deckorators StealthLock™ Universal Deck Clips. These hidden fastener clips fit securely between the grooves of each board, eliminating the need for pre-drilling and ensuring proper spacing for consistent gap alignment. The result is a fast, efficient installation and a clean, fastener-free deck surface.
If you prefer traditional top-down fastening but want to conceal screw heads, our Pro fastening systems provide a simple and effective solution for stairs, perimeter boards, or individual board replacements.
How should I clean my Excursion decking?
To maintain the appearance of your Excursion decking, regularly remove leaves and debris that could cause staining. Start by sweeping the decking boards and cleaning the gaps between them. For dirt or marks, a mixture of soap or detergent with water is effective. If you choose to use a power washer, make sure to set it to the lowest pressure and use a fan-tip nozzle for safe and effective cleaning.
